Further details about ANZAC Day in New Zealand

This statutory holiday differs from the Anniversary Days because it always falls on the same date every year – April 25th.

The public holiday is to commemorate all New Zealanders who have been killed in war.  The name comes from the name given to servicemen in the Australian and NZ armies and April 25th was when they landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.

Throughout the country ceremonies are held at war memorials.

The day is seen as a notable day in that New Zealand was able to gain a unique identity in world events.
