History behind the successful introduction of Taranaki Anniversary Day:

Approx 8 million years ago, a supercontinent named Gondwana split and established a relatively smaller landmass. Suddenly Tasman Sea roused and carried the land future would be called New Zealand away from Australia and Antarctica.

The separation of New Zealand from part of the continent caused complete isolation evoking a unique evolutionary path for the development of New Zealand.

The early effect of the isolation resulted in the fossil record because of the presence of endemic species that had never been discovered anywhere else on Earth’s crust.

New Zealand comprises two main islands and Taranaki is west coast of North Island. This piece of land has an impeccably stunning view of volcanic peaks like Mount Taranaki.

The indigenous people who settled down in Polynesia about 700 years ago were called Maori. But, in the 19th century internal conflict completely wiped off the population of Taranaki and caused invasion of European settlers.

This verdict was exercised by the surveyor of Plymouth Company, Frederic Carrington who selected this piece of fertile land which used to have adequate rainfall and along with rich volcanic soil.

What can be done on this day?

Taranaki is a land rich in conquest and defeat. This means you can witness violence traces that were during tribal periods or European influential times. This resulted in biodiversity and valuable culture coming out with flying colors in the parade and live tournaments.

Besides this, people most like to spend this time relaxing at home taking a tour of the city, or exploring nearby locations. Visit Taranaki on this special occasion to enjoy the regal and serene view of the majestic volcano along with the beautiful coast.

Biodiversity accounted for by settlers depicts this as the land of low mammalian count but is even the place where two different species of native bats are found.

Explore Taranaki to fetch a single glance of gold striped gecko which is one of the rare animals discovered today.
